Sterling Silver
Sterling silver is often characterized as pure silver, when in fact it is a silver alloy. Pure silver, also called fine silver, is defined as 99.9% pure silver, but is too soft for most uses. Sterling silver is an alloy of 92.5% and 7.5% copper. Copper is the best alloy for silver as it improves the metal's hardness without affecting its color and shine.
Sterling silver means that the object is made of a minimum of 92.5% real silver. It is often called “925 silver”, or 92.5% silver for that reason. Sterling silver has a hallmark stamped on it representing 925.
Sterling silver tarnishes simply by being in contact with the air. Pure silver is, like gold, impervious to tarnish, or oxidation on the surface. It is the alloy metal with attracts the tarnish.
Pearl Types
Most Jewelry is fashioned from precious metals and stones buried deep within the earth, however a pearl is one of the few jewels that is created within a living creature; an oyster. Pearls are currently cultivated by inserting a tiny foreign substance into the mantle of the oyster. Upon insertion, the oyster engages in a natural biological process of releasing nacre material that surrounds the foreign substance and protects the oyster's environment. Numerous layers of secreted nacre material result in the creation of a beautiful natural pearl.
Oysters are capable of producing a number of different pearl shapes, ranging from off-round baroque to tear-like drops.
Freshwater pearl
Freshwater Pearls are produced by a mollusk that inhabits freshwater. This pearl is commonly known for it’s uneven surface or irregular shape. We love the irregular shape of the freshwater pearl and have created some beautiful, classical, colorful unique pieces for you.
Shell pearl
The shell pearl is made from the shell of an oyster. Making a shell pearl involves several different stages. The raw material for the base of the pearl is the sea shell, which is coated and polished to the final shape of the pearl. In order to produce a good quality pearl, a key ingredient is what we call a 'mother of pearl bead'. This element adds weight, value and durability to the pearl. The materials used to make shell pearls are the same materials from which cultured pearls are made.
There are many reasons why pearls lovers all over the world prefer buying shell pearls. The first one is their price. The shell pearl is an elegant, striking and colorful pearl and it is affordable.
The modern technology of pearl production can assure its durability. The shell pearl will always keep its shine and color, and will not be affected by sweat, perfume or detergents.
Coin Pearl
Coin pearls are real pearls that are found in freshwater mollusks. They are flat and coin shaped (hence the name) with an irregular surface.
Gemstones
A gemstone or gem, also called a precious or semi-precious stone, is a piece of attractive mineral, which when cut and polished is used to make jewelry or other adornments. However certain rocks, (such as lapis-lazuli) and organic materials (such as amber or jet) are not minerals, but are still used for jewelry, and are therefore often considered to be gemstones as well. Most gemstones are hard, but some soft minerals are used in jewelry because of their luster or other physical properties that have aesthetic value. Rarity is another characteristic that lends value to a gemstone.
The stones used in the crafting of fine jewelry are generally divided into two classes: precious stones and semi-precious stones. These terms are used heavily in the world of jewelry when considering variety and value.
These stones are simply rocks (minerals) taken from the earth, and after they have been enhanced by the artisans cutting and polishing, the finest and rarest of them are what we call gems. Semi-Precious Stones A large number of stones used in our range of jewels is known as semi-precious; the most important ones to us and therefore used often in our designs are: amethyst, lapis-lazuli, turquoise, aquamarine, topaz, moonstone, opal, jade, garnet, agate, azurite, malachite, bloodstone, coral, lava rock and jasper. These stones allow us to produce unusual designs and adapt them to the personality and desire of our customer.
Crystals
Swarovski Crystal is one of the finest crystals produced in the world today and is noted for its purity, brilliance and reflective qualities. It is a synthetic crystal produced in Austria using a formula perfected by Daniel Swarovski and his sons at the end of the 19th century. What sets Swarovski crystals apart from other imitations is the superior quality of the cutting and polishing used in the finished product. We offer pieces incorporating the Swarovski crystal in an array of colors. One of our most popular pieces is our Swarovski crystal starfish which is extremely eye catching.
